This is quite different from standard Bible curriculum. Unlike KONOS character curriculum, Developing Godly Character in Children concentrates primarily on the Bible. Concepts are based upon the authors' backgrounds in Youth With A Mission and Christian day and home schools. They are also influenced by the teachings of Bill Gothard.
Nine main character qualities are used as the foundation for nine units of study, with 95 related sub-qualities included under the various units. Most home educators will only be able to cover about three of the nine units in a year, making this is a three-year curriculum.
Each main and sub- character quality is introduced and defined in children's terms; Scripture memory verses are also given for each sub-quality. A catechism approach is then used to teach some key concepts. A traditional hymn relating to the quality is learned, and a list of simple, commonly-known choruses is provided.
In addition, we are given a list of projects/activities that help teach the character qualities in each unit, along with lists of useful resources (books, audio, and video). A reproducible lesson plan form can be used to organize the activities you choose.
Many ideas presented in this curriculum are so broad they can easily be used with all ages. The more narrowly focused ideas will suit selected age groups. The result is a curriculum that can easily be used to include the entire family.
This also makes an excellent Sunday school or children's church curriculum for creative teachers.
