Money Matters for Teens

Money Matters for Teens

This adaptation of Larry Burkett's ideas and materials on money management principles was written for young people approximately ages 11 to 18. Topics covered in Money Matters for Teens include stewardship, money, attitude, planning, banking, spending, and careers. Each topic is broken down into bite-size topics that are presented along with cartoon illustrations, all of which makes it appealing and user-friendly.

While the book provides the groundwork and principles, companion workbooks give young people practical application exercises. Workbooks are co-authored by Burkett and Todd Temple. One workbook is designed for ages 11-14, and the other is for ages 15-18. Workbook activities address some but not all topics in the primary book. For example, 3 of 12 activities deal with checking accounts and banking. Consequently, the workbook will be used with only the appropriate chapters. Workbooks differ slightly in that the older level workbook addresses buying a car and financing college education and a few other issues more applicable to older than younger students.

Young people can work through the book and workbook on their own, although it might be more motivating to go through them with a friend or a group.
