The Giants of Political Thought [audio cassettes]Knowledge ProductsIdeas have tremendous influence in the political realm; in fact, politics might be the major battlefield for attempts to put ideas into action. Thus, it becomes vital to understand some of the most influential figures in the political thought arena. The historical figures we learn about in these twelve audio tape sets are Paine, Jefferson, Thoreau, William Lloyd Garrison, Adam Smith, J.S. Mill, Wollstonecraft, Machiavelli, Boetie, Marx and Engels, Rousseau, Burke, Hamilton/Madison/Jay, Hobbes, Locke, and Tocqueville. Tape sets are not dependent upon each other, so select one or more. Because this is heavy thinking material, the tapes will appeal to adults more than teens. However, students with a strong history background should enjoy them. I reviewed the tapes on John Locke (Two Treatises of Government) and found them to be easier to understand than were tapes from the philosophy series. They often include storytelling illustrations that are very engaging. Some tapes from this series, including those on Locke, are used in Cornerstone Curriculum’s Worldviews of the Western World.
