Culture Wars - Current Issues, course H155

This course deals with many of the moral issues facing us today. It begins by acknowledging the Christian foundations of our country, then it addresses the cultural warfare that has developed as pagan worldviews have vied with Christianity for the hearts and souls of men. It covers such issues as Christians and public policy, the death penalty, Christian education, abortion, abstinence, rock music, and many others. Each issue is defined and addressed from a biblical point of view. (I was pleasantly surprised to find one of the strongest defenses for separation of school and state I have encountered; the book clearly teaches that government should not be involved in education.) Each chapter expresses strong opinions and encourages political involvement. At the end of each chapter are a number of questions, both short answer and essay, and Bible verse memorization. The course is intended for tenth grade students but it might be used a different year in high school. It includes a worktext, quizzes, exams, and answer keys.
