The Stock Market Companion is a subscription website for learning about the stock market in real time. Homeschooling dad, Eric Stasak developed a S.I.M.P.L.E. method of stock investing based upon the "stories" and corporate earnings behind stocks as well as buying and selling at the right time. Subscribers receive stock market updates three times a week plus "intra-day" alerts of action related to stocks on his watch list.
Since launching the website, Stasak has been developing teaching tools, videos, and quizzes to make it easier for those new to the stock market to learn how to evaluate various stocks and follow the action in the stock market. The quizzes themselves even serve as teaching tools.
Stasak has also written a great book for beginners titled 10 Essential Concepts: How the Stock Market Works. While this is not required reading, I highly recommend it. A recent addition to the website now makes it much easier to figure out how to use all the resources and learn how to get started. Non-members can find this curriculum outline at : http://www.stockmarketcompanion.com/how-to-use-the-smc-15minute-market-update-program-as-a-curriculum-and-investment-training-tool-2/.
Stasak's approach is very conservative. He generally recommends moving to the sidelines rather than being invested in a market that is heading downward. He recommends that beginners practice with paper trades rather than real money until they learn more about the stock market.
The Stock Market Companion is a great tool for parents and children to work together to learn about global and business finance, the stock market, and the characteristics of excellent companies and eventually develop their own investment portfolios.
