Home School in the Woods presents two gorgeous collections of blackline maps, Olde World Style Modern and Ancient World Maps and Olde World Style Modern and Historical Maps: United States Maps. Some of these maps were originally included as an extra bonus in her timeline book, Record of Time, but that original collection of maps has been expanded into two separate collections that are available on CD-ROMs or as downloadable files. All files are PDFs. Each collection also includes notebooking pages.
The World Maps collection has more than 130 maps. Most maps have both ancient and modern versions. Ancient versions show outlines of a country or area but no modern political boundaries while modern maps show present-day political boundaries. In addition, there are both labeled and unlabeled versions of most maps. Labeled maps identify major cities, bodies of water, and rivers. Likewise labeled and unlabeled world maps are included in the collection.
More than 40 notebooking pages are included with the World Maps. Among these are templates for creating brochures, explorer reports, flora and fauna reports, timeline pages, religious history reports, people of the past reports, country reports, and even two geography quizzes.
The United States Maps collection has complete U.S. maps, ten historical maps, and three versions of maps for each state: labeled, unlabeled (showing rivers and lakes), and outlined (without rivers and lakes). Notebooking pages for this collection are Fact Sheets for each state for students to record information and color. There separate pages with state flags that can be colored, cut, and pasted on to the Fact Sheets. A teacher key for the Fact Sheets is included.
The blackline masters are very attractive even if printed onto plain copier paper. But you might consider printing some of these maps onto parchment-style or other attractive paper. Students can use colored pencils to color them in.
