Welcome to the premiere site for homeschool reviews!

Since 1984, we have provided resources for the homeschooling community like the well-known Christian Home Educators' Curriculum Manuals by Cathy Duffy, HotHouse Transplants, and the latest title 100 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum. Our site also features articles and reviews of other books Cathy believes are important for those interested in homeschooling, education, and related politcal and spiritual issues.
While we stretch beyond homeschooling, our primary goal always remains the same:
To help families successfully educate their own children!

Get a QUICK START in homeschooling with Terri Johnson's Homeschooling ABC's. Terri has put together fabulous step-by-step lessons to get you up and running immediately. Homeschooling ABC's come to you as weekly lessons—PDF files that you read on your computer. Each lesson is linked to free sample curricula, articles, templates for things such as copywork pages, planning/scheduling pages, and valuable websites. The freebie links and attachments will more than offset the cost of Terri's course!

More importantly, Terri offers very practical guidance so that you don't get overwhelmed trying to get too many things accomplished at once. Her first lesson on what to do for the first few weeks while you sort out everything else is fantastic.

Math in Focus

published by Harcourt/ Saxon Homeschool

Singapore Math fans now have another choice!

Like the original Singapore Primary Math series, Math in Focus is especially strong in developing conceptual understanding. It differs from the original Singapore series in that it is also aligned with the NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) standards… the math standards that prevail in the U.S. However, unlike most programs aligned with the NCTM standards, it does not try to teach every concept every year. Instead, it focuses on fewer topics but teaches them thoroughly so they need not be retaught continually.

The scope and sequence is advanced as with the original series. A major focus is upon preparing students for success in algebra. Consequently, algebraic thinking and expressions are introduced early and used frequently throughout the series.
