BJUP's Algebra 1 is now available in its second edition which is much more homeschool friendly. Parents without a good math background should still be able to work with their students through this text without difficulty. Lessons are designed to be taught, but explanations should be thorough enough for students to do much study independently. Still, you will need the teacher's edition from time to time.
The two-volume teacher's edition features reduced student pages with overprinted answers, motivational ideas, strategies for presentation, tips for difficult problems, and detailed solutions for problems.
The student text contains some biographical sketches and “Algebra Around Us” features. Chapters include sections on “Probability and Statistics” and “Algebra and Scripture.” Exercise sets are grouped into three sections of problems with increasing levels of difficulty as well as a cumulative review section. Choose problems from the appropriate set or sets for your student. Additional practice and enrichment problems are in the Student Activities Algebra 1 book. It has its own teacher edition/answer key. An optional test packet includes 14 chapter tests, several quizzes per chapter, and cumulative tests.
The homeschool kit includes the student text, teacher edition, tests and key but not the activities book.
