Lively, bubbly Diana Waring presents this homeschool orientation class series. Taped before a live audience, the four classes are each 1 3/4 hours long. Presentations include much of the wisdom and practical suggestions Diana shares in her book, Beyond Survival, but she uses the visual media to enhance the presentation. For example, husband Bill joins Diana to role play learning style conflicts that arise between parents and children. Bill steps in to show learning tools that suit different types of learners. Diana shows resources from her own library that we might want to use for different purposes.

Besides learning styles, Diana covers just about every topic you might think of from scheduling, choosing an educational approach, and selecting curriculum through teaching teens, world view education, apprenticeship, and homeschooling with a spread of children’s ages that includes “wee ones.”

The video set comes with an outline booklet. Tape production quality is a little uneven, but the content is so good, you’ll likely overlook technical deficiencies. Although advertised for beginning homeschoolers, I suspect that veterans will also find them encouraging, inspiring, and informative.
