Listen and Learn with PhonicsCareer Publishing, Inc.The basic Listen and Learn with Phonics set includes three cassette tapes with instruction in phonics for children to listen to while looking at the five beginning word books that are correlated to the tapes. The set also comes with a parent’s guide, a game envelope containing six games, two beginning readers (I Can Read My Name and Let’s Read), four additional follow-up readers, a separate phonics game, and a 24-page phonogram dictionary. Children can work fairly independently through parts of the program, and instructions are simple and clear. While this is not as comprehensive as Sing, Spell, Read, and Write or Play ‘N Talk, it is a solid, well-organized phonics program that does a lot of the work for you. If you have a Wiggly Willy (kinesthetic and short attention span) learner you might also want to use Career Publishing’s Shortcuts to Reading along with Listen and Learn. Many students of all learning styles might need more extensive practice than is provided here.(Check the reviews of “Readers” for extra reading material or consider supplementing with an inexpensive phonics book or other supplement.
