Here is a simple presentation of phonics instruction in a single book. It has a clear outline for teaching each letter. The instructions for teacher presentation are excellent for parents lacking confidence.
It uses Orton-Gillingham methodology with word families as does Alpha Phonics and many others.
A valuable extra is an appendix in the back that shows a choice of readers from numerous publishers that would be appropriate at each stage of phonics instruction. The list includes a number of options from their own publisher, Educators Publishing Service, and also the Merrill Linguistic Readers (SRA). The Alphabet Series (see review) is one such set of readers.
A set of nine Recipe for Reading Workbooks can be used for practice and reinforcement.
Recipe for Reading will probably progress too slowly for the bright child but will work well for average to slow learners. It is also good for remedial work.
