Rocketbook DVD study guides for literature

Rocketbook publishes DVD study guides for a number of novels and plays that are required reading at high school level. But these are study guides like you've never seen before. Designed especially for teen audiences, graphics, animation, live-action footage, and music make the presentation very engaging. Although there's a "talking head", the screen never stagnates.

Even though these study guides are much more entertaining than Cliff Notes, the material presented is very solid. Presented chapter-by-chapter, each lesson includes a chapter summary, chapter analysis, and a few online quiz questions with answers provided after a pause. I reviewed The Great Gatsby, and bonus material on that DVD features short sketches of the key characters.

Each DVD also comes with a password that allows you to download PDF supplements from the publisher's website.

These guides should be especially helpful for students with learning disabilities but they are excellent for all students.

Titles available thus far:

King Lear
Romeo and Juliet
Julius Caesar
The Crucible
The Scarlet Letter
The Odyssey
The Great Gatsby
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
Pride & Prejudice
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl

When I first reviewed these, they were selling the DVDs, but it appears that as of December 2009, the DVDs as well as related PDF files are available as free downloads on their website.
