Thinking Connections: Concept Maps for Life Science, Books A1 and B1by Frederick BurggrafCritical Thinking CompanyBook A1 is suggested for grades 4 through 6 while B1 is for grades 7 through 12. These reproducible books have worksheets that can be used along with any life science or biology courses. The blank “maps” are filled in with the vocabulary being studied in a way that emphasizes the relationship the words have to each other and to the subject as a whole. The “maps” can be colored to show other relationships. In both books, each “map” comes in two different skill levels, so the books can be used with groups of differing grade levels or ability. These books help students learn the “grammar” of life sciences. A1 is 184 pages in length and B1 is 152 pages. Most suitable for “Competent Carl” and “Perfect Paula”, but “Sociable Sue” might like it if it is done as a group activity. [reviewed by Val Thorpe]
