The title of this book nicely sums up its purpose: assisting Christian parents teaching their children how to serve God through writing. The Write Book gives idea after idea of activities to encourage children to put pencil to paper. Robert Allen has not written this book specifically for homeschoolers, and it is not designed as a writing course. But it does provide suggestions on writing for any family.
Chapters, whose titles all continue the pun of write/right (such as "Write Away" and "The Write Gift"), feature a variety of fun writing activities that vary from brief to lengthy. Some of the shorter, easier ideas include making lists, various word games, gift coupons, and cartooning. The lengthier writing suggestions include newsletters, writing tracts, writing songs, and making a family Bible commentary. Throughout the book, Mr. Allen shares examples from the writing of his own children.
This small paperback book would be especially helpful for parents of younger children who have not done much writing. It is also valuable for families who want to learn how to incorporate writing into family life. The activities in this book can help make writing a fun, daily part of your family life and an opportunity to serve God. (Reviewed by Becky Parker)
