DIVE Into Math offers instruction for each Saxon text from Math 54 up through Calculus via streamed videos. DIVE stands for Digital Interactive Video Education, a technique that uses a computer “whiteboard” (which is blue on your computer screen) so that it looks and sounds like a class lecture. However, there is the added advantage that students can rewind, pause, and fast forward whenever they need to. In each video, Dr. David Shormann explains the topic of the lesson and works through practice problems on the whiteboard. He also adds some explanation beyond that of the textbooks. Students see only the computer whiteboard on their screen while listening to the audio explanation. The videos use some practice problems different from those in the textbook.
Students solve exercise and test problems, entering answers online. For missed problems, there are links to lessons where concepts were taught as well as to help from a solutions manual.
While Dr. Shormann follows the Saxon lessons closely, he also teaches from a Christan worldview, including a Christian philosophy of mathematics, Christian testimony and Bible verses in each video—something you won't get from the Saxon texts. Although there’s nothing glitzy about it, this type of instruction might be just the thing for students who need more multi-sensory input to be able to work through the Saxon lessons.
Digital Interactive courses are available for current editions of Saxon textbooks as well as for some previous editions.
