Mastering Algebra “John Saxon’s Way” is a series of video teaching supplements for not just algebra, but for the Saxon textbooks Math 76 through Advanced Mathematics. You still need the student textbook and the answer key for each course. Problem solving is still done using the textbook.
These video lessons are taught by Art Reed who has more than 12 years of experience teaching Saxon math courses. Reed walks students through new concepts in each lesson with videos that average about seven to eight minutes each. He uses his own method of presentation rather than just repeating what’s in each textbook.
Video instruction is available through streaming or on DVDs. Streaming subscriptions are for two years.
It is important to note that Reed teaches the textbook Advanced Mathematics in two separate video courses. These two video courses (along with the textbook) should be used over two years rather than just one. The second video course includes using the first 25 lessons from the Saxon Calculus textbook. Reed explains the rationale for this and how math credits should be allocated in a brief video.
There are other videos providing teaching assistance for the Saxon Math courses, but this series adds a valuable feature: Art Reed will provide assistance via email if a student needs help with a difficult concept or a particular math problem.
