Kids Guitar Zone offers a series of ten free guitar lessons presented online by Australian guitarist Andrew Keppie. Lessons are written for kids and are very easy to follow.
The ten lessons often contain more than one video teaching segment. The second lesson has six video segments, the fourth lesson has ten, and the fifth has five, but others have only one, two or three segments. Segments vary in length from fewer than 10 minutes up to about 20 minutes. This is a lot of content!
While Keppie uses a bass guitar in his promo video on the site, he uses only an acoustic guitar in the lessons. He begins with the basics on strings, frets, and posture, then teaches simple tunes. Starting with a tune on only one string, Keppie then gradually introduces tunes using more than one string, then chords.
The tunes he uses are a well-known but diverse assortment such as “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” “La Bamba,” "Jack and Jill,” “Wild Thing,” “Yellow Submarine,” and Taylor Swift's “Shake It Off.” Only with the eighth lesson does he start to sing words to the songs. Parents concerned about the content of the songs should check out lessons eight through ten in advance. Keppie posts the following on his site regarding content: "At Kids Guitar Zone we take internet safety very seriously, particularly in regards to child safety and appropriate content. Keppie includes downloadable PDFs showing the music. He uses tablature and chord windows showing strings to be played and frets where fingers need to be placed. Once he teaches chords in the sixth lesson, he identifies chords by their letters as well.
Kids Guitar Zone is a great way for kids (or adults) to get started playing the guitar with no cost or obligation beyond acquiring a guitar.
