Challenge teens to think through their religious beliefs, guided by Dr. R.C. Sproul, with this DVD video- or CD audio-based course. Two DVDs or three CDs together contain five, thirty-minute presentations by Sproul. The first section deals with absolute truth, logic, the existence of God, the nature of Jesus, and the concept of worldview. Part two gets into sin and redemption. The third part tackles salvation and judgment. Part four deals with the Christian walk. The final presentation emphasizes God's holiness and the Christian's commitment to follow God in all areas of life. The concept of worldviews, although introduced in the first section, is a theme throughout the series.
On the DVD's, Sproul speaks dramatically to a live audience against a visually interesting stage set. Otherwise, these weighty topics might cause some teens to nod off.
The tapes have a companion leader guide. The leader's guide describes how the course works plus it has six- to eight-page Bible study supplements. The course is best used in an interactive situation (e.g., parent and teen or larger group).
Each video/audio section sets the stage with an entertaining essay to read aloud. Questions are posed for students to consider as they view the DVD. The Bible study can be used or not as time allows, but it takes students deeper into the issues. A section on worldview follows, with the theological issues translated into real life applications. This section should prompt a great deal of discussion. The topics covered are vital for teens to study, but you will need to be sensitive to their maturity levels and spiritual states in choosing when to use Choosing My Religion. Sproul's doctrinal position is reformed Protestant and affirms the inerrancy of Scripture.
