Fun Tales Readers is a set of 27 small readers that help children practice reading at a beginning level. The readers are only five inches by four inches, so they are easy for young children to handle. They come in a sturdy slipcase for convenient storage.
These readers use a few basic sight words (e,g., the and a) along with single-syllable, short vowel words. Students learn the letters and their sounds in order, from the sounds that are easiest to hear to the most difficult. The first reader begins with words using only the letters: a, b, m, p, and t. That reader has only four pages while the rest have eight. The sentences gradually get longer, and the sentence structure becomes more complex. For example, in the twenty-seventh reader, there are two sentences on two of the pages. The final page reads: "Jen yells, 'Yes!' Tex is glad."
The covers of the readers feature bright colors, while the inside pages are black and white. Each page has a cartoon-style illustration that relates to the text.
Sonlight includes the Fun Tales Readers in their K Phonics Program, but these readers can be used with any phonics-based reading program.
