Fun Tales Readers is a set of 27 small readers that help children practice reading at a beginning level. The readers are only five inches by four inches, so they are easy for young children to handle. They come in a sturdy slipcase for convenient storage.
These readers use a few basic sight words (e.g., the and a) along with single-syllable, short-vowel words. Students learn the letters and their sounds in a particular order, from the sounds that are easiest to hear to the most difficult. The first reader begins with words using only the letters: a, b, m, p, and t. That reader has only four pages while the rest have eight. The sentences gradually get longer, and the sentence structure becomes more complex. For example, in the twenty-seventh reader, there are two sentences on two of the pages. The final page reads: "Jen yells, 'Yes!' Tex is glad."
The covers of the readers feature bright colors, while the inside pages are black and white. Each page has a cartoon-style illustration that relates to the text.
Sonlight includes the Fun Tales Readers in their Phonics K Program, but these readers can be used with any phonics-based reading program.
