Alpha Omega's Language Arts combines reading, spelling, penmanship, composition, grammar, speech, and literature. At this level, the emphasis is primarily upon reading skills, although the other areas of language arts are included.
This level begins with single-syllable, short-vowel words, assuming that children already know their letters and sounds. Unlike LIFEPACs for older levels, this course must be taught by the teacher. Instructions are included in a teacher manual.
While there are a few reproducible worksheets in those manuals, students also complete ten LIFEPACs. (Student LIFEPACs are printed in full color.) Beginning readers are inserted into the middle of five of the LIFEPACs so that students get plenty of reading practice.
This course does a decent job of combining language arts skills in one place, which is particularly helpful for parents uncertain how to cover other skills when they purchase a phonics-only program. Christian content appears throughout the course.
